posted Apr 22, 2011 9:28 AM by crule@fremont2.org

There were a few areas we needed to revise on the 2010-2012 tech plan to be approved by the state.  After a long review and revisal process I have submitted the tech plan to WDE for final review.

Touch Screen

posted Apr 11, 2011 3:05 PM by William Phelps

One of the parents brought in a touch screen for Special Education.  We had to modify it a little bit to get it to fit on a screen here, but it is working very well.  Now we can have a touch screen on a normal computer for the little fingers to manipulate.

Custom Internet Caching Router

We completed building and programming a custom Internet Caching router based upon OpenBSD.  We were able to bridge two NICs and cache Internet traffic using Squid.  On my tests we saved about 100mb of downloaded content in two days using two computer.  That's about 50mb per day per computer in a test environment.  On our production network we should see between 2 and 5 GB per day savings.  Wow- that will help!

Poor Internet Connection

posted Mar 31, 2011 11:27 AM by crule@fremont2.org

Argh- frustration abound!  Our Qwest Internet connection provided by WDE has been super bad.  It has been up and down over 60 times every day for the past several weeks.  This will affect connection to the school from outside the school network for services like PowerSchool and video conferences.

The issue is out of our hands and we're working with TelCos, the state ad vendors to provide a timely and long-term solution.

Wikipedia Now Open

For some reason wikipedia.org was blocked from student use.  I realize it's not a source worthy of citing but it almost always has references to valid sources.  And the pictures on Wikipedia are copyright free so anybody can use them without fear of legal issues.  This alone makes it a useful resource.

Students and teachers now have access to wikipedia.  I've re-categorized it as education.

Today the new Mac Mini Server arrived.  We're going to use it for AD/OD integration to allow our new lab of Macs in the high school to be able to authenticate using Active Directory.
